IP Reputation Check

IP Reputation Check

What is a reputation check?

A reputation check is a query against a IP reputation database that provides insight into the reputation of an IP address. The reputation of an IP address is based on user reporting of the specific IP address. If an IP has been reported for abuse then a number of reports and reporting users will appear in the report and the confidence score will be greater than 0%.

What data is returned on a reputation check?

Each reputation check returns the same fields for each IP address. The data is based on reported IP addresses from many websites and is a group project.

The following fields are returned

  • IP Address: The IP address being checked
  • Is Public: If the IP address is a pubic address
  • Version: Whether the IP address is version 4 or version 6
  • Whitelisted: If the IP address has been whitelisted
  • Confidence Score: Confidence that the IP address is being used for abuse
  • Country: The country the IP address is based
  • Usage Type: How the IP address is used
  • ISP: The ISP associated with the IP address
  • Domain: The domain associated with the IP address
  • Is Tor: Whether the IP address is Tor
  • Distinct Users: Number of district users who have reported the IP address
  • Total Reports: The total number reports against the IP address
  • Last Reported At: The last date the IP address was reported

Who maintains the reputation database?

The reputation database is maintained by AbuseIPDB and IPSearch.io uses the data supplied via an API. Any user can report an IP address on the AbuseIPDB website or on websites that utilize the IP address for reporting. Over 20 million IP addresses are reported each month to AbuseIPDB.
