A common type of proxy is a virtual private network (VPN), which not only hides the users information but also encrypts the connection. The key component of a proxy is the destination server is unaware of the original source of traffic.

Why should I check to see if I am using a proxy?

There are a couple of reasons you should check to see if your connection is using a proxy.

  • Validate that your VPN connection is working correctly
  • View how destination servers might view your connection

What do the proxy check results mean?

The proxy check returns 4 fields with each check:

  • ISP: The internet service provider (ISP) of the proxy / VPN server
  • Organization: The organization associated with the IP address acting as the proxy
  • Connection type: The type of proxy connection, such as VPN
  • Is proxy: Whether or not the connection is viewed as a proxy connection

How do I proxy my IP address?

To proxy your IP address you need to first signup for a proxy or VPN service. After signing up, you can connect to the proxy server and then validate your proxy is working correctly. It is recommended that you choose a proxy close to you to reduce latency but you may need to choose one further away if you are attempting to access geo restricted content. We recommend understand the laws in your jurisdiction before using a proxy service.
